Save Environment Speech For Students

Speech on Save Environment is an important topic for students. Students can avail a well-written speech on the topic ‘save environment speech’ and learn how to write the speech that will impress the audience.

Long Speech

Good morning to one and all present here. I am glad to be given the opportunity to present a speech on Save Environment. Our environment is where we live. There must be harmony between the environment and living beings. In the present scenario, due to overpopulation, the environment is under distress. The situation is alarming as our natural environment is overexploited to meet human needs. It is because of many human activities that we are not able to maintain a healthy balance with nature.

The threat we are facing includes manmade disasters and global warming. These threats are real and have raised an alarming situation. We need to come together to save our environment. This speech on saving nature throws light on why it is needed by mankind to protect and preserve the environment. Our environment offers everything from clothing, water, food to shelter. All living beings are a part of the ecosystem. Hence, it becomes our responsibility to take care of the natural habitat.

Environmental pollution is one of the biggest issues that the modern world faces today. To meet the wants of society, we are putting too much pressure on the natural environment. This leads to damage to nature. The soil is losing its fertility, and in most places, soil pollution makes it difficult to grow crops. Even air and water pollution is the effect of mass urbanization and industrialisation. Controlling the pollution is a need of the hour, however, this still gets neglected by us. I am delivering the speech to save the earth to make you aware of what can be done by each one of us sitting here. We can make our earth a better place to live by taking simple steps like planting a tree, throwing waste in proper bins, saying no to plastic bags, etc. Rather than complaining about pollution, such small steps must be taken to make our environment sustainable.

Environmental problems are also the result of vast technological advancements in the last few years. The overuse of resources to build IT infrastructure is responsible for the loss of the natural environment. Government and international organizations must take proper steps to control pollution and save our mother earth. Environmental protection policies must be strictly enforced. Everyone has to come together to save our mother nature.

Saving our environment is much more important today than ever before. The degrading quality of earth life is what we all are familiar with. However, the early signs of the upcoming destruction are visible. The harsh weather conditions, increased carbon dioxide emissions, melting of glaciers, etc. are the major concerns that needed immediate attention. Let us all do what we can to save our environment and preserve our resources for future generations.

Short Speech

Good morning to all. Today, I am going to give a short speech on saving the environment. We are all aware of how the environment is important to us. We cannot afford to harm the environment any longer. In today’s modern world, our planet earth is affected significantly. However, if we want to live in harmony with nature, we cannot put the entire pressure on the environment. Living beings, for their survival, depend completely on the natural and manmade environment. It is impossible to live without the resources that the atmosphere provides. In such a situation, it becomes critical to save mother nature from getting over-exploited due to the increasing population.

We all know that factors like overpopulation, deforestation, etc. are responsible for environmental destruction. Small steps taken by us can go a long way. We must try to use as much public transport as possible to protect the air we breathe. We must throw garbage in the right bins so that proper disposal of waste and waste management can be done. We need to make efforts in the right direction to conserve our natural resources and habitat. Some of the ways by which we can achieve this are to use renewable energy, avoid plastic bags, plant more trees etc.

Mother nature offers so much to us. We must protect the environment and nature and be a part of sustainable development programmes.

10 Lines Speech

A heartfelt welcome to each one present here. I am here to deliver a speech on saving the environment and saving a life. It is no hidden fact that our environment is affected largely due to human activities. It is facing a threat at an alarming rate. We have over-exploited nature due to our greed. This has caused a natural imbalance. However, we can still do something and protect our environment from all the damages. We must plant more and more trees, throw garbage in the dustbins, avoid using plastic bags, etc. It cannot be denied that our natural environment is such an important part of our ecosystem. It is important to educate people about how the environment is getting damaged. Then only we can have green earth to live in.

Main Causes of Environmental Degradation

Pollution, in any form, is destructive to the environment, whether it be in the form of air, water, land, or noise.

Rapid population increase limits natural resources, resulting in environmental degradation.

Increasing population equals more need for food, clothing, and housing. More land is needed to grow food and provide housing for people. Deforestation occurs, as a result, contributing to environmental degradation.

Deforestation is also caused by using forest areas for agriculture, livestock grazing, fuelwood harvesting, and logging. When forest size decreases, deforestation contributes to global warming by releasing carbon into the atmosphere.

The exhaust gas released by industries is one of the primary sources of pollution. Lead is found in large concentrations in the environment due to a range of substances such as gasoline, paints, ceramics, and batteries.

In recent years, there has been a massive increase in the number of private vehicles. The higher the number of cars, the higher the rate of pollution that causes smog. Lower-level ozone, which is detrimental, is caused by hydrocarbons emitted by engines.

Speech on plant trees, saving mother earth is important for students as it will make them aware of how to use natural resources and how a healthy balance can be maintained between the environment and human life.

1. Air Pollution

Talking About the Environment - man on mountain

Gina: Wow! It’s such a beautiful day! The sky is so blue.

Oli: I guess… It’s been nice all summer, so I don’t notice it as much. Maybe I’m getting spoiled!

G: I wasn’t expecting it to be like this. My Dad came here a few years ago and he said the air quality was really bad.

O: He’s not wrong. It used to be terrible. In summer, you’d often get thick smog covering the whole city, but it’s improved greatly in the last decade or so.

G: What changed?

O: I think it was driven by people’s attitudes. Ten years ago, no one was interested in environmental issues, but nowadays there’s much more awareness of things like air quality and how it can affect your health.

G: Sure, but that can’t be the only reason.

O: Well, no. The local government also brought in new laws and regulations. They introduced restrictions on driving in the city centre, made it illegal to use wood or coal fires for heating, and moved a lot of heavy industry away from the city. Plus, there are much tighter regulations nationally, too, like with car emissions: compared to even ten years ago, cars are much cleaner.

G: It’s impressive that they could make such a big change in a short time. Ten years isn’t long for these things.

O: True, but there’s still more to do. It can still get hazy in winter. They’re investing in public transport infrastructure, though, so I think it’ll carry on getting better.

In your hometown, is the air quality good, or do you have problems? Can you remember any of the phrases you heard in the dialogue to talk about air pollution? You heard:

  • The air quality was really bad.
  • You’d often get thick smog covering the whole city.
  • It can still get hazy in winter.

‘Air quality’ is a useful phrase for this topic. You can use it with different adjectives. For example:

  • The air quality is terrible.
  • The air quality is better than it was ten years ago.
  • The air quality is great for such a large city.

Learn more about adjectives in this Oxford Online English lesson on How to Use Adjectives .

‘Smog’ is a thick fog, caused by air pollution. If the air is a little dirty, so that you can’t see far, you might describe it as ‘hazy.’ Here’s a question: what do you think the government, companies or individuals can do to minimise air pollution? In the dialogue, you heard several possible solutions, such as:

  • The government brought in new laws and regulations.
  • They introduced restrictions on driving in the city centre.
  • They made it illegal to use wood or coal fires for heating.
  • They moved a lot of heavy industry away from the city.

‘Restrictions on driving’ could mean different things. For example, London has a congestion charge, meaning that drivers have to pay every time they enter the city centre. Some cities have banned vehicles with diesel engines, while others have created large pedestrian zones. Let’s practise! Here are three questions for you.

  • What’s the air quality like in your city?
  • What is your local or national government doing to improve air quality where you live?
  • What do you think is the best way to reduce air pollution?

Pause the video, think about your answers, and write them down or say them out loud. If you need more help, review the dialogue and this section. There are many words and phrases you can use. Ready? Let’s move on to our next point on talking about the environment.

2. Waste and Recycling

Talking About the Environment - recycle bin

Oli: Whoa! What are you doing?

Gina: What do you mean?

O: You can’t throw that in there!

G: Why not? It’s garbage.

O: Yeah, but it’s recyclable. It goes in the blue bin.

G: You mean, I have to put all recyclable stuff in the blue bin?

O: Not all. Plastics go in the blue bin, paper and card in the brown bin, and bio-waste in the green one.

G: ‘Bio-waste?’

O: You know, food waste and stuff like that.

G: Is that it?

O: The black bucket is for glass and tins. Do you not recycle?

G: In my hometown you can recycle a few things, like glass, but we don’t sort our garbage like this. It seems very complicated!

O: Then what, all of your rubbish just goes into landfill?

G: I guess… I’ve never thought about it. I just throw stuff away and forget about it.

O: It was the same here not so long ago, but now we’ve got used to sorting our rubbish and recycling as much as possible. It’s much more environmentally friendly.

G: I’m sure you’re right.

In the dialogue, we mentioned several different types of garbage. Quick question: can you remember three of them? By the way, the words ‘garbage’, ‘rubbish’ and ‘trash’ all have a similar meaning: they all mean the stuff which you throw away. If there is recycling in your city, you might need to sort your recyclable garbage, meaning you put different things in different bins. Generally, you can sort garbage into recyclables and non-recyclables. Recyclable garbage might include glass, tins, cans, paper, card, plastic, and bio-waste. Waste which is not recycled is often sent to landfill. This means the waste is buried in a big hole in the ground.

Sometimes, waste might end up in a dump. A dump is like a landfill, but it isn’t buried, so it’s just a big pile of garbage on the ground somewhere. Now it’s time for you to practise. Here are another three questions for you:

  • In your city, do you sort your garbage? If so, how?
  • What waste is commonly recycled in your country?
  • What happens to non-recyclable waste?

As before, pause the video and make your answers. Practise them a few times before you continue. Let’s look at our next topic on talking about the environment.

3. Talking About Food Safety and Farming

Talking About the Environment - farming

Gina: That book looks interesting. What’s it about?

Oli: This? It’s by a Japanese writer. It’s about farming and how we could make farming more sustainable.

G: OK… You’re a graphic designer. Why are you reading about farming?

O: It’s interesting! Farming produces the food you eat. It’s not like it doesn’t affect you.

G: What’s his idea?

O: He’s basically saying that modern farming methods can produce more in the short term, but in the long term they degrade the land and end up costing more.

O: One thing he talks about is pesticide use. If farmers use pesticides and herbicides, then they create an ecosystem which depends on those artificial products, which are often harmful for the environment. If you grow food organically, using more traditional farming methods, you can grow the same amount of food without using pesticides at all.

G: So he thinks we should go back to mediaeval farming or something?

O: Not exactly. I can see you’re sceptical , but I think you should read it, too. It’s not just theory, by the way. He’s used his ideas to set up several farms in different countries, and they work just like he says.

G: Hmm… I have been thinking about these things, actually, especially with meat. I saw a documentary about livestock farming and slaughterhouses, and it was shocking. I guess most people just buy the food and don’t think about where it comes from.

O: Right, so you’ll definitely like this book, too. You can borrow it once I’ve finished.

G: What’s it called?

O: “ The One-Straw Revolution .”

Do you think about where your food comes from, and how it’s produced? Modern farming is heavily mechanised—it depends heavily on machinery, automation, as well as chemical products like herbicides and pesticides. Herbicides kill weeds, meaning unwanted plants. Pesticides kill insects and small animals which might try to eat food crops.

Farming needs to be sustainable. ‘Sustainable’ means that something can continue. For example, if you earn $1000 a month and spend $2000, that isn’t sustainable. Maybe you can do that for a few months, but you can’t do it long term. In the same way, some farming methods are unsustainable. In this case, farming can degrade the land, meaning that, over time, it becomes more and more difficult to grow anything.

On the other hand, some farming is organic. ‘Organic’ means that food is grown without using any artificial chemical products. Of course, farming isn’t just about growing plants. There is also ‘livestock farming’: raising animals for meat, eggs or milk. Animals which are raised to provide meat are generally killed in a slaughterhouse.

What about in your country? Think about these questions:

  • Are farms usually bigger and more mechanised, or are they mostly smaller, using more traditional methods?
  • Do you think it’s worth paying extra to eat organic food? Why or why not?
  • Is it important to know how your food is produced? Give a reason!

Pause the video and think about your answers. Write them down, say them out loud, or do both. Let’s look at our last section.

4. Climate Change

Talking About the Environment - ice cliff

Oli: Do people ever talk about global warming in your country?

Gina: For sure! It’s a big issue. We have a long coastline, and a lot of the land is close to sea level, so the dangers feel very real.

O: I feel like people often don’t pay attention to these things until it’s too late.

G: It’s already happening, though. There’s more flooding than there used to be, and older people, like my grandparents for example, all say that summers have got much hotter than they were 50 years ago.

O: That’s kind of scary. I read somewhere that even if we cut carbon emissions to zero, global warming would continue for at least fifty years, because of the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere.

G: The big topic for us is sea levels. If the ice caps melt, they say sea levels will rise by two or three metres. For some countries, that wouldn’t be a big deal, but we’d lose almost half of our land.

O: I don’t think any country will be immune from the problems if it continues. So, do you think there’s a solution? It doesn’t look optimistic from what I’ve heard.

G: I mean, people talk about things like carbon taxes and reforestation programs, which are helpful, but I don’t think there’ll be any real progress until there’s true international cooperation. So far, I don’t see any sign of that.

In the dialogue, you heard us talking about climate change. Can you remember climate change vocabulary and phrases we used to describe the causes and effects of climate change?

By the way, you can use the terms ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’. People use them with the same meaning. Climate change is caused by increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The main greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, or CO2. Sometimes, instead of talking about carbon dioxide or CO2, people will just refer to ‘carbon’. You can hear things like: ‘We need to cut carbon emissions significantly.’ Climate change may lead to several problems, particularly flooding caused by rising sea levels. Although there aren’t clear solutions, some people suggest that carbon taxes or reforestation programs are good ways to combat climate change. A ‘carbon tax’ means that companies would have to pay the government if their operations released CO2 into the atmosphere.

Let’s see: can you use some of this language? Here are three questions for you.

  • Are you worried about global warming? Why or why not?
  • How would your country be affected if sea levels rose significantly?
  • What do you think is the best way to deal with climate change?

Pause the video and make your answers now! How was that? There’s a lot of language in this lesson, so don’t forget to review any sections that were difficult for you.

Hopefully that helped you feel more confident talking about the environment in English. Thanks for watching!

In today’s globalized economy, workplaces are becoming increasingly diverse, bringing together employees from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds. While this diversity offers numerous benefits, it also presents challenges, particularly in the form of language barriers. These barriers can hinder effective communication, reduce productivity, and create a less inclusive work environment. In this article, we'll explore the impact of language barriers in the workplace and offer actionable strategies to overcome them.

The Impact of Language Barriers in the Workplace

Language barriers in the workplace can manifest in several ways, each with its own set of challenges. Understanding these impacts is the first step toward finding effective solutions.

  • When employees do not share a common language, miscommunication is almost inevitable. Instructions may be misunderstood, leading to mistakes and decreased efficiency. This is particularly problematic in industries where precise communication is crucial, such as healthcare, manufacturing, or finance.
  • Language barriers can impede teamwork, as employees may struggle to communicate effectively with one another. This can lead to a silo mentality, where individuals or departments work in isolation rather than collaborating, ultimately reducing innovation and productivity.
  • Employees who are unable to communicate effectively with their colleagues or supervisors may feel isolated, undervalued, and frustrated. This can lead to lower job satisfaction, reduced engagement, and higher turnover rates.
  • In workplaces where safety is a top priority, language barriers can pose significant risks. If employees cannot understand safety instructions or warnings, the likelihood of accidents increases, putting both individuals and the organization at risk.
  • Leaders who cannot communicate effectively with their team members may struggle to convey their vision, provide feedback, or address issues. This can lead to a lack of trust and confidence in leadership, further exacerbating communication challenges.

Strategies to Overcome Language Barriers in the Workplace

Overcoming language barriers requires a proactive approach, with strategies aimed at improving communication, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring that all employees feel valued and understood.

  • One of the most effective ways to overcome language barriers is by offering language training programs. This can include courses in the dominant language of the workplace or in the languages spoken by your employees. By improving language skills, employees can communicate more effectively, reducing the likelihood of misunderstandings and errors.
  • Encourage the use of clear, simple language in all workplace communications. Avoid jargon, idioms, or complex sentences that might be difficult for non-native speakers to understand. Providing written communication in multiple languages or using visual aids like diagrams or videos can also help bridge language gaps.
  • For important meetings, documents, or training sessions, consider using professional translation and interpretation services. This ensures that all employees receive the same information and can participate fully. It’s particularly important for safety training and compliance-related communications, where misunderstandings can have serious consequences.
  • Technology can be a powerful tool in overcoming language barriers. Translation apps, real-time interpretation tools, and multilingual communication platforms can facilitate better communication among employees who speak different languages. Investing in these technologies can make a significant difference in a multilingual workplace. You can also organise movie nights with your team, and watch a different movie each week. That way, you are creating a safe working environment where people respect each other’s culture. And you’re  learning a new language on Netflix while you’re adding a new movie to your “movies I’ve watched” list.
  • Creating a workplace culture that values and encourages multilingualism can help bridge language gaps. Recognize and reward employees who are bilingual or multilingual, as they can serve as valuable resources for communication. Additionally, encourage employees to share their cultural backgrounds and language skills, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Language barriers are often intertwined with cultural differences. Providing cultural competency training can help employees understand and appreciate the diverse backgrounds of their colleagues. This training should cover not only language but also non-verbal communication, cultural norms, and values. By increasing cultural awareness, employees can communicate more effectively and work together more harmoniously.
  • Encourage employees to ask questions, seek clarification, and express their concerns if they do not understand something due to language barriers. Creating an environment where employees feel comfortable admitting when they don’t understand something can reduce misunderstandings and promote better communication.

presentation on environment in english

  • Designate bilingual or multilingual employees as language liaisons or cultural ambassadors. These individuals can assist with translations, help bridge communication gaps, and support their colleagues in overcoming language-related challenges. This approach not only improves communication but also empowers employees to take on leadership roles.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of your communication channels and be open to making adjustments. For example, if email communication is leading to misunderstandings, consider incorporating more face-to-face meetings or using visual aids. Flexibility in communication methods can help ensure that all employees are on the same page.
  • Finally, it’s important to monitor and measure the effectiveness of your efforts to overcome language barriers. Solicit feedback from employees, track improvements in communication, and adjust your strategies as needed. Continuous improvement is key to creating a workplace where language barriers are minimized.

Language barriers in the workplace are a common challenge in today’s diverse and globalized business environment. However, with the right strategies in place, these barriers can be overcome, leading to better communication, increased productivity, and a more inclusive work environment. By providing language training, using clear communication practices, leveraging technology, and fostering a multilingual culture, businesses can ensure that all employees feel valued and understood, regardless of their linguistic background.

How to shape gut feelings in product presentations

Crafting product presentations that connect emotionally

A person doing a presentation on a whiteboard.

In 1984, Steve Jobs introduced the first Macintosh to the world. It sounds second nature now, but if you look at the video, you will see the foundations for the spectacle that Apple has accustomed us to witness every time the company introduces a new product — whether that is the iPod, the iPhone , or Apple Vision Pro.

The stage — which resembles more a Broadway show than a tech presentation — and the captivating music are set in a way that makes us want to see more, learn more, and, potentially, buy. There’s a reason for this — charts and figures alone rarely persuade on their own. Whatever information we perceive, we do so through the prism of emotions.

Therefore, when we are presenting a new product, it is key to have a story that appeals to that human, emotional aspect of people, which often drives our decision-making. In this article, I will share some tips to do so.

Tailoring a product presentation to create an emotional impact:

Founder of XPANCEO.

Establish rapport

It is an element of human nature that we are more inclined to trust those with whom we share some familiarity. In presentations , you can use this to your advantage.

From my experience, 50% of success comes with mastering your appearance. For example, if you are presenting to a fund manager, wear a plaid shirt and a fleece vest on top of it. If it is a startup founder, wear a hoodie with your logo on it. This creates empathy, as looking similar will create this impression of affinity.

Establishing common ground is important because deals are primarily about people, not so much about Excel spreadsheets and IRR calculations. Once you’ve taken care of appearance-related matters, emphasize building rapport by speaking clearly and exhibiting a calm and confident demeanor.

Also, listen. Many people are good talkers, but not everyone is a good listener. The perfect meeting is when you listen for 30 minutes, and then, at the end, you agree in 3 minutes what the next steps will be.

Build bridges, not walls

Another recommendation is to avoid negative talk. Unleash the value of your product without undermining your competitors. Bashing colleagues, investors, clients, or even competitors kills rapport and generates mistrust. After all, if you’re criticizing others in their presence, who says you will not do the same about them when they’re not around?

Speaking about competitors, I recommend that you share information and knowledge with each other, as you are allies with a common goal of shaping the future together. Genuine conversations with them can yield better results than only communicating with clients.

Create an immersive experience

Your presentation needs to have substantially more images than words, and if you can create an MVP to give people something they can touch and feel, that’s ideal.

For example, IKEA developed a VR app that enables shoppers to visualize how a piece of furniture would look in their living spaces, and assess whether it is a good fit. This helps customers make better buying decisions.

Similarly, Marriott Hotels once created VRoom, an experience that, through a VR headset, allowed customers to digitally visit destinations around the world and experience the sights, smells, and sounds associated with the area. This also served as a way to promote other Marriott properties.

Dream big and demonstrate value

When Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg make a statement, it is bold. Ambitious goals are wonderful to pique people’s interest and make them ask, ‘When will it be ready? I want it so much!’

Opening up with such a statement shows your belief in your product. As a founder/leader, your genuine enthusiasm for what you’re building must be palpable. This conveys confidence to your team and external stakeholders. Once you make an assertion, though, you need to back up your odds of success, and provide as much validation as you can.

Keep in mind that audiences generally skim through long presentations and don’t read past the third slide. To engage effectively, use minimum words and maximum images, and explain things as you would to a seven-year-old. It is crucial to convey the product’s value right from the first slide, tailored to resonate with your audience’s needs and those of the specific industry or sphere they represent.

Then, your speech should center on how your product creates value and makes people’s lives better. Answer how you measure this value and utility, and highlight the human impact. If your solution helps people be pain-free for 3 days, say that. Sharing the numbers matters.

This includes traction — potential stakeholders, and particularly investors, love to see you’re moving towards your goal like a freight train, and also that you have a solid plan. I recommend you prepare a detailed roadmap with step-by-step success milestones. Make sure to explain what you expect to attain at each stage, and how these cumulative small actions lead to big changes — How can a small antenna change millions of lives.

Finally, add a slide with the team delivering the key message — If we don't do it, then who will? If there's anyone who can do it, this is us. The founders of some of the most revolutionary tech projects often include this slide right at the start of their presentations, underscoring their belief that they are uniquely positioned to succeed where others may falter.

What’s next?

After the meeting or presentation concludes, your goal is to agree on the next step — signing a contract, securing funding, or at least, meeting again at a certain time. The agreement needs to be specific.

For this, it is key to be clear on whether the person needs your solution or not. If they don’t, and you get a “no,” don’t take it personally. It is better to get a “no” right away than getting it one year later. Also, as a note. If someone asks you about a failure, this is because they know the negative aspect of your product. Answer honestly. Everything has potential downsides, so it is better to discuss them openly.

Last but not least, maintain a growth mindset and ask yourself how you can improve. Practice is the best way to hone your skills and prepare yourself better for the next opportunity.
