A bit about you
Whenever I went on holiday as a child I found myself fascinated by all the different cultures and languages I’d hear. I knew I wanted to travel the world when I grew up so I decided to study languages. I won’t lie the year abroad sealed the deal for me. I wasn’t sure if I had a shot at Cambridge because I didn’t start learning languages until secondary school and was convinced that every other applicant would be basically fluent! Don’t worry I was very wrong in that regard.
How did you find the programme?
I was searching for practice interview questions and came across the website.
How did it help with your Oxbridge application?
I’m so thankful for my tutor. She really reassured me and got rid of all the silly myths I believed about Cambridge students – they’re not all fluent in 15 languages! It made me feel like it was a realistic goal, and she helped me put a plan together to really prepare well and maximise my chances.
If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be studying at Oxford I probably would have laughed at you. I never saw myself as the academic type or even someone who would fit in here. However my Spanish teacher at school encouraged me to take the subject seriously, and when it came to be time to look into universities I thought why not apply and see what happens!
I felt daunted by the notoriously tricky admissions process so did a quick Google search for companies offering support.
The lessons were great because the tutors really went out of their way to make them suited to you and your needs. They’ve also been through the process so recently and it was amazing to do a mock interview with tutors who understood exactly how I was feeling. I think I did so many mock interviews that I simply practiced the nerves away by the end.
My sister studied at Oxford and whenever we went to visit her I would always imagine myself studying there. It’s such a beautiful city and I quickly fell in love. Studying at Oxford has been a dream come true for me.
Quite unconventionally actually! My sister is a tutor with the Medicine programme and told me how useful she would have found the programme when applying which prompted me to take a look.
The programme was helpful from the very start to the very end – particularly around interview time when the stress started to mount!
